The largest business organization in the upstate, the Greenville Chamber of Commerce, has named Anderson-based agency, Mance Multimedia, LLC, its 2022 Minority Business of the Year. The recognition was presented in front of a sold-out crowd at the Greenville Chamber’s 134th Annual Meeting.

Mance Multimedia, a full-service creative agency, was founded by CEO Michael Mance, a native and current resident of Anderson County. The company helps build clients’ recognition and credibility through marketing, advertising, design, and production services.

CEO Michael Mance states, “Winning Minority Business of the Year from the Greenville Chamber of Commerce is a truly a full-circle moment, and that’s because I started my professional career as a Marketing Director for the Anderson Chamber of Commerce. It was there that I fell in love with both promoting and growing a business. To transition into a full-time business owner, and be recognized by such a large, pro-business organization is definitely a great accomplishment!”

The company has worked with both local and national companies, most recently designing packaging for Texas-based flooring company Acufloor – helping launch their product into 1200 Lowe’s stores. Additionally, the company helped launch and win the campaign for Anderson County Councilman Glenn Davis.

Part of what makes the company so unique is its willingness and ability to package services to the benefit of small, minority and non-profit businesses – allowing them to get the same level of creative services as larger companies with budgets for large ad agencies. These banner packages are touted as “Flip My Brand“, utilizing a 5-point framework to grow any brand.

Painting Brand Hires Mance Multimedia | Logo Design

South Carolina painting brand, Revision Painting, LLC, hires Mance Multimedia to design their new brand and logo identity. The company, owned by Mr. Tarond Williams, wanted a clean representation of its commitment to quality and customer service.

What makes a logo design effective?

Famous designer Sagi Haviv, states that the most effective logo designs are “Appropriate,” “Distinctive/Memorable,” and “Simple.” Haviv’s company, Chermayeff & Geismar & Haviv, is responsible for the brand design of many famous brands, including “US Open,” “NBC” and “Showtime.”

So, why is this important?

About the Mance Multimedia Logo Design Process

The Mance Multimedia design process, which includes a quality-check system, to make sure our logo designs are effective.

The checklist includes:

1. Is the logo simple (memorable)?

The simpler, and less busy, something is, the more likely it is to be remembered. Honestly, that is the purpose of a logo – to build instant recognition. If there’s too much to try to remember, the logo doesn’t work.

However, simple doesn’t have to mean boring…

2. Is the logo unique (remarkable)?

The thing that makes you go “wow, that’s cool” or “neat” is what makes a logo remarkable or “worthy of remark”. These are conversation starters, and trigger curiosity to learn more about the brand.

So, why can’t you put too much detail?

3. Is the logo scaleable (legible)?

A logo must be easily recognizable and legible in most sizes. That includes a large billboard, as well as a small icon on a mobile device or business card. This is where simplicity matters, as some details get lost in smaller sizes.

And that leads to the question…

4. Is the logo relevant (appropriate)?

A logo must be appropriate for the industry expectations and the audience. A choice of the wrong font can make you seem playful and childish when you want to appeal to serious executives, and an evil scary font might not be appropriate for a children’s toy brand. Colors, symbols, and shapes all play a part in what is relevant.

So, how does the new logo for Revision Painting stack up to this checklist?

By applying the design to common applications like windows, vehicles, graphics, and more, we are able to visualize its effectiveness.

Mance Multimedia CEO Michael Mance graduates SC Minority Business Accelerator Program (MBA)

Continued education and development have always been valued by Mance Multimedia, as well as having a strong business foundation. It is important to the organization to make sure we are serving the right customers, being efficient with our operations, and always adding value to our services.

Using the phrase “CEO Graduates Business Accelerator” is a big deal, because it ensures that our minority business has the necessary foundation from the top down. In fact, a three-year strategic growth action plan was created as a part of this twelve-month program.

About the SC Minority Business Accelerator Program

The Minority Business Accelerator supports and scales high-potential minority-owned firms by providing targeted training, access to business coaches, and access to large corporations. Participants leave the program with a three-year Strategic Growth Action Plan to guide their development.

Before the program, Mance Multimedia was operated more as a “freelance” organization and has since shifted to the agency model.

We are better positioned to assist small, minority, and non-profit organizations – who aren’t generally targets of marketing and advertising agencies.

This is our primary difference, as we are known for having better pricing, higher quality, and quicker turnarounds than most marketing and advertising agencies. In fact, our pricing is 5% lower than most marketing and advertising agencies.

Since the program, Mance Multimedia has enhanced its service offerings, and streamlined its systems and processes to better assist customers.

We have even introduced a new branding framework, specifically designed to focus on the areas that grow small brands into more recognizable and credible brands.

This “Flip My Brand | FMB” framework is a 5-point framework focused on 5 key areas.

  1. A Strong Brand Identity
  2. Cohesive Graphic Design
  3. A Custom Website
  4. Video Storytelling
  5. Quality Photography Content

Services like this helped Councilman Glenn Davis win a county council election, and we would love to earn your business.

Branding: 5 Keys to Grow Your Business

Studies show that 90% of human decisions are made based on emotions. The Brand Gap author Marty Neumeier defines a brand as “a person’s gut feeling about a product, service, or organization” – an emotion! So, shouldn’t businesses spend more time creating a feeling around their business? Mance Multimedia has identified 5 keys to grow your business with branding.

In the book Duct Tape Marketing by John Jantsch, “Marketing is getting someone – who has a need – to know, like and trust you.” So, if you strategically make your marketing “brand-centric,” your small business will become a bigger – stronger – brand!

Here are 5 areas to focus on when branding:

1. Have An Identity

Every brand needs a strong identity. This isn’t just a logo, but the entire look, feel and message – presented in a way that strategically positions you to be perceived the way you want to. The key here is knowing your target audience and speaking to their needs and motivations.

Understand how you want to be viewed to your audience!

2. Integrate that Identity Through Touchpoints

What’s a strong identity system without a broad application? If you have a logo, put it in your email signature. If you order company shirts, spend the extra $X to get the color to match your brand colors. Everywhere your brand “touches” someone should look, feel, and be perceived as the same.

Hire an experienced graphic designer to help you integrate your identity across your brand.

3. Build A Website

Social media and advertising should drive people to your website, not be in place of it. Think of it like asking someone on a dinner date to your home, then wowing them with your culinary skills and hospitality! Sure, you can go out, but everyone invites people over when it gets serious!

Get serious about your business prospects and build a website!

4. Produce Video Content

Attention spans are short, and nobody likes to read paragraphs of content. This makes video the most effective communication tool. Tell your story, share a testimonial, or even explain how your product or service works!

Focus more on Video!

5. Have a Photography Content Strategy

Images reinforce everything! They enhance value by illustrating what you’re trying to communicate, give insight to your personality and ultimately help grab attention – keeping you top-of-mind.

Note: Image quality can help or hurt your efforts. Hire a professional to take a batch of branding images to use in your content!

Bonus Insight: Bigger branding means command high dollars, and consistency and cohesiveness is the difference!

Summary: 5 Keys to Grow Your Brand

  • Design a cohesive identity
  • Apply that identity system to everything
  • Build a website (social media isn’t yours)

Mance Multimedia branding propels Davis to election win

Case Study: How Cohesive branding helped secure a campaign victory for Glenn Davis

Winning an election is already difficult during a general election period. Candidates have a year or more to get supporters and detractors to like, know and trust the candidate – ultimately earning or losing their vote. Local elections, especially special elections, prove to be even more difficult!

With the untimely death of the late Honorable Gracie Floyd, Glenn Davis chose to pick up the mantle and run for Anderson County Council District 2 seat – but so did six other people. This divided the roughly six-month special election period into three smaller elections.

  • A political party primary election
  • A party run-off election (Only 15 days after the primary election)
  • A special general election
I knew of the two candidates but didn't know who to vote for. I watched the video, and I saw how clean and crisp the Glenn Davis campaign was. I was sold!

With so many candidates tossing their hat in the ring, Glenn Davis turned to Mance Multimedia, LLC to brand market their campaign. Services included, but were not limited to:

  • Branding Consultation and Management
  • Video Production
  • Photography
  • Radio/Audio Spot Production
  • Media Buying/ Ad Management
  • Social Media Management
  • Graphic Design & Printing
  • Communications/ Public Relations
  • Event Coverage

Glenn Davis has won the District 2 seat for Anderson County Council by a landslide. Let’s take a deeper look at the numbers and timeline:

  • Advances to primary run-off with 38% of vote on March 30th – leading his would be run-off competitor Marian Robinson by a 17% margin.
  • Receives 59% of the run-off vote to secure the Democratic nomination on April 13th
  • Defeats Republican candidate David Standard to win election with 68% of the vote

When speaking on his experience with Mance Multimedia, LLC, Councilman-Elect Glenn Davis states, “This guy is awesome, he and his wife! If you only knew!”

Danny Best of Anderson Metal Roofing Offers Testimonial for Mance Multimedia
[Problem]

Yard signs don’t stand out, and are hard to read.

[Solution]

Functional graphic design to make pertinent info STAND OUT, and lower printing cost.

[Customer Feedback]

Huge shout out to Michael Mance with Mance Multimedia for getting Anderson Metal Roofing new signs made. He did a complete design faster than our original sign maker could make two font changes. He was prompt with every question I had, and there was limited back and forth as he listened to what I wanted and designed it perfectly. He got them to me two weeks sooner than the large printing company in Anderson quoted, came in 20% cheaper, and delivered them to me at my son’s soccer game. I have not seen customer service and quality like this before in the printing world. I have ordered thousands of dollars of printing over the years and this was definitely my best experience. He will be doing all of my work from now on. If you need anything printed give him a call.
